KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–Some of the first Christmas parades of the season were Monday, with many more to come this week. Get ready for fire trucks, police cars, floats, horses, carriages, four-wheelers and Santa Claude coming to your town square.
News Mississippi would like to be at every parade in the state, but we had to choose just one, and so Kosciusko is where the news crew went Monday night at 6:30.
“Candy Canes and Christmas Carols” was the theme and you could see everything from Santa to a line of four-wheelers revving their motors, and even a CAT bulldozer.
It looked like most of the city of 7000’s residents made it to the square for the festivities.
“We always look forward to it,” said one resident. “This always kicks off the Christmas season, so we don’t miss it.”
Another resident said she believes parades like the one Monday bring people to downtown businesses.
Starkville, New Albany, Pontotoc, Amory and Okolona also had parades Monday.
Yazoo City, Ripley, Noxapater, Houston, Grenada, Oxford and Aberdeen were set for Tuesday night.
