While we’re still months away from the 2024 college football season kicking off in Mississippi, fans of the state’s two Southeastern Conference (SEC) programs have been given a teaser for game times in the upcoming campaign.
Time slots for the first four games of the season were released a couple of weeks ago, leaving enthusiasts anticipating what time of day the other eight games would begin. Now that itch can be scratched with ESPN releasing the full itinerary for games involving SEC teams, including Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
Games not given a specific time were placed into the following categories:
- Early: 11 to 12 p.m. CT start
- Afternoon: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. CT start
- Night: 5 to 7 p.m. CT start
- Flex: Games flexed between the Afternoon (2:30-3:30 p.m.) and Night (5-7 p.m.) windows
On the Ole Miss front, the Rebels will begin the opening quarter of the season playing afternoon and night games against non-conference foes. Lane Kiffin’s squad will then begin conference play in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with a morning kickoff against Kentucky.
A mixed bag of start times will follow as the Rebels have just two official kickoff times scheduled with the other five matchups falling into early, night, and flex categories. Notable time slots on Ole Miss’s schedule include a nightcap at LSU on October 12, an early slot with Oklahoma rolling into town on October 26, a possible prime time or night slot with Georgia visiting Oxford on November 9, and of course — the annual Egg Bowl being moved to 2:30 p.m. on Black Friday.

In Starkville, Jeff Lebby’s debut will be one possibly without a night conference game in Davis Wade Stadium. The Bulldogs open the 2024 campaign with three nighttime contests against non-conference opponents. Mississippi State will open SEC play at home with a morning kickoff against Florida.
Lebby’s squad will then begin a tough road journey with an afternoon game at Texas on September 28 before traveling to Athens for an afternoon or night matchup at Georgia on October 12. The Bulldogs will have their first shot at a home SEC nightcap against Texas A&M on October 9. Just one of Mississippi State’s following five games will be played at night — a road test at Tennessee on November 16.
