This makes three barges in three days. Now the Vicksburg Railroad bridge is open, and has been inspected. No barges have broken off from this crash.
Austin Golding with Golding Barge Line says that he felt one of the crashes in his office.
“We could see this flooding into February,” he says, “this is far from over.”
Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall says his concerns with the bridge, which serves as a railroad bridge, line up with the bridge’s age and it’s vital function to trade across the U.S.
“The Mississippi River bridge in Memphis is over 100 years old, this one is approaching 100 years,” Hall says, “the next one is in Baton Rouge. If we were to lose this one, imagine what it would do to railroad commerce across this country.”
