Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson will lead a trip to the southern border to examine Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) processing centers, ports of entry, and border security technology.

Thompson who Chairs the House Committee on Homeland Security will be joined by Representative Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM), Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Management, and Accountability, Representative Lauren Underwood (D-IL), Vice Chairwoman of the Committee, and Representative Veronica Escobar (D-TX).
“The only way we will know the most effective ways to invest taxpayer dollars is by working with real facts,” said Thompson. “That’s why it is crucial we see firsthand the situation on the ground at the border so we have a full and accurate understanding of our current border security operations – and how best to bolster them.”
Along with examining CBP facilities and resources in El Paso, TX and Columbus, NM, Members will be meeting with local immigrant advocacy groups and borderland stakeholders.
