WASHINGTON, D.C.–Homeland Security was funded yesterday in the U.S. House in a clean, full-year funding bill. Mississippi’s lone DC Democrat, Rep. Bennie Thompson, said that Republicans held up funding with very little reason.
“I am relieved that after weeks of unnecessary drama, stirred up by a radical faction of the Republican Party, we have finally passed a clean, full-year bill to fund the Dept. of Homeland Security,” said Thompson, Rankling Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security.
“Democrats have been asking for this since December and it is what the taxpayers expected us to do. While it is clear that Democrats forced Speaker Boehner to stop playing political games with our Homeland Security budget, there are no winners here.”
Thompson said the bill should’ve been passed last year and that Homeland Security, which operates TSA, should have been focusing on stopping hackers and cyber attacks.
“I hope that we can work together on these critical issues and stop this pattern of governing from crisis to crisis.”
