Third West Nile Virus Death Confirmed in Mississippi

FORREST COUNTY, Miss.- The third West Nile Virus death was confirmed by the Mississippi State Department of Health Wednesday.

The person infected was from Forrest County. This is the third death this year and there have been a total of 19 people infected from the West Nile Virus. Adams (2), Bolivar (1), Covington (1), Forrest (1), Hinds (4), Lauderdale (1), Madison (2), Newton (1), Rankin (4), Yazoo (1), and Wilkinson (1) counties. WNV deaths have occurred in Forrest, Madison, and Yazoo counties.

In 2013, Mississippi had 45 WNV cases and five deaths.

Remember to use mosquito repellent containing DEET before going outside, get rid of standing water around your home and try to avoid areas where mosquitos are prevalent.
