JACKSON, Miss. – The third case of West Nile Virus has been reported in Simpson County by the Mississippi Department of Health.
According to Dr. Thomas Dobbs the third case is a reminder of the importance of preventing mosquito exposure.
Back in 2014, Mississippi had 43 WNV cases and seven deaths.
“Historically, this is the time of year when we see the number of WNV cases begin to increase. The Majority of cases are usually reported in August and September – although West Nile Virus cases can occur anytime of the year,” said Dr. Dobbs.
The MSDH recommends using mosquito repellent that contains Deet while outdoors.
