HARRISON COUNTY, Miss.–It took over a year for all the evidence to be processed, but now prosecutors are getting ready to take Alberto Garcia to trial. He was indicted Monday in the murder of five-year-old Janaya Thompson.
Thompson was found dead in July 2014 after she had been missing and police and people in the community had been searching for her.
Gulfport Police said she was found in the trailer where Garcia lived and she had been sexually assaulted and strangled.
Another man, Julian Gray, had been considered a person of interest, but was not indicted in Thompson’s murder. He was charged in other sex crimes.
Garcia may be in court in early November.
