American funk and soul icons The Commodores will be kicking off Delta State University’s fall mainstage series on Thursday, September 7.
The popular performers will take the stage at the Bologna Performing Arts Center on campus at 7:30 p.m. for a night filled with recognizable hits.
Formed in 1968 while all the members were in college at the Tuskegee Institute, The Commodores were soon discovered by the legendary Berry Gordy, leading to a remarkable journey with Motown. With hits like “Machine Gun” and “Sail On,” the group became proven artists, selling over 60 million records and earning the title of “Grammy Award Winners” for their hit song “Night Shift” in 1986.
The Commodores are also known for their popular hit “All Night Long,” which was performed alongside founding member Lionel Richie, who has since gone on to be a solo artist.
To date, the music group has continued to put out original work, establishing their own record label — Commodores Records and Entertainment.
Under that label, they have released Commodores Hits Vol. 1, Commodores Hits Vol. 2, Commodores Christmas, and Commodores XX-No Tricks.
