The Beach Boys are once again getting ready to take over Mississippi’s largest car show this Friday and Saturday.
Mike Love, who co-founded the Beach Boys with his cousins Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, said the California-based band loves playing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but especially at Cruisin’ the Coast.
“We’ve been coming down to Biloxi for many, many years even before they built the Beau Rivage. You know, that was the coliseum,” Love said. “The audience still loves our songs, particularly with Cruisin’ the Coast weekend.”
The Beach Boys have revolved a lot of their music around cars, including songs like “409,” “Shut Down,” Little Deuce Coupe,” “I Get Around,” and “Fun, Fun, Fun.” Love said this combined with the event being along Mississippi’s 26 miles of sandy beaches makes for some of the best shows.
“We have all kinds of songs having to do with cruisin’ and cars, so this really is the time of the year we love to come down to the Coast,” Love continued.
The band – current members being Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and Bruce Johnston – are now celebrating their 61st year on the stage. This weekend’s concerts are both set for 8 p.m. at the Beau Rivage. Tickets can be purchased here.
