JACKSON, Miss. — Bond has been denied today for the teenager accused of killing a pro fisherman from Texas.
Investigators say Shaun Brown had confessed to killing Jimmy Johnson last month at a Jackson motel while trying to steal from Johnson’s boat. But at his Monday court hearing, Brown changed is story and now says that he’s not guilty. An attorney for the Johnson family says they will fight for justice and may even file charges against Motel 6.
“We want to make sure if they played some part in allowing this to happen in some way that they’re held accountable as well,” said David Murray.
He added that Johnson was at the motel hoping to get a good night’s sleep before competing in a fishing tournament on the Reservoir and had no need to fear for his own safety. “Because they had checked in advance about safety measures that the hotel had taken, they felt pretty comfortable there.”
Brown is charged with capital murder. The case against him will now go before a grand jury.
