A teenager has been confirmed dead after a “medical emergency” at the Gautier High School fieldhouse.
Law enforcement authorities announced that the unidentified student collapsed at the on-campus facility on Thursday around 3:40 p.m., per a report from WLOX. CPR was administered on the pupil by coaches and first responders were called to the scene.
The student was transported to the Ocean Springs Hospital via an Acadian ambulance before ultimately passing away. Though the cause of death is currently unknown, no foul play is suspected.
“The Gautier High School and Pascagoula-Gautier School District community is processing an unimaginable tragedy,” a statement from the school district reads. “The entire PGSD community is grieving, and our hearts are with the student’s family and friends. Mental health support is being provided at GHS for staff and students.”
This update comes after eighth-grade Canton Academy student, Jasper Branning, passed away.
