HATTIESBURG, Miss.- While at a home on Richburg road, a deputies vehicle was stolen by a teenager.
The deputy was dealing with another juvenile matter when the teen took the vehicle. The suspect then led Lamar County deputies and the Mississippi Highway Patrol on a chase through the county.
According to Master Sargent Brent Barfield there was a wreck during the pursuit when the suspect attempted to cut off officers. The crash did involve a trooper, however the trooper was not injured.
Officers finally got the vehicle stopped west of Maks West, in the median.
The teen was arrested and taken from the scene. No one was injured in the chase.
News Mississippi has reached out to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Highway patrol for further comment on the investigation.
