You may not know, but if you receive Social Security benefits, you may be required to pay federal income tax for some of those benefits. There are a few ways to know if this is you.
- Have you received a SSA-1099 Social Security Benefit Statement showing your amounts?
- If Social Security your only form of income for 2016 you may not be taxable.
- You may use IRS Free File to prepare and file the tax returns for free if you earned $64,000 or less.
