JACKSON, Miss.–You may soon be able to buy your hunting gear tax free here in Mississippi.
The Senate, Wednesday, passed a bill that would exempt firearms, ammunition, hunting and fishing supplies from state taxes the first weekend in September.
Lt. Governor Tate Reeves said it would encourage more citizens to participate in outdoor shooting sports and to buy their supplies in Mississippi.
A similar bill passed in the House Tuesday and would cost the state an estimated $375-thousand a year; but was held over for more work.
