JACKSON, Miss.–It’s over $5 billion in taxpayer money expected to be spent by state government in the next fiscal year and today Gov. Bryant will announce how he would like it to be spent. His budget recommendations were expected at the capitol at 1:30.
Once Bryant says how he’d like it spent, other budget recommendation will come from the Senate and House and they’ll work out a budget that will likely be passed by the legislature next year.
Bryant has said that he expects the 2014 legislative session to focus on public safety and the expectation is that more money than usual would be appropriated for programs and agencies like the Highway Patrol and the Dept. of Corrections.
Education, though, will likely be where most of the money is spent, along with the state’s share of Medicaid that matches federal money.
