A 29-year-old man has been given 15 years in state prison after pleading guilty to trafficking stolen firearms.
On April 13, 2024, 29-year-old Kyler Seamster, of Sumner, was arrested by Gluckstadt Police after a traffic stop. The stop was executed for “improper equipment,” but officers then discovered the car to be a suspect vehicle in multiple recent auto burglaries in the area.
Marijuana paraphernalia was also spotted, leading to a search of Seamster’s vehicle. Three stolen firearms tied to recent auto burglaries were found, along with clothing and a backpack that had been seen on neighborhood surveillance tapes.
“I urge the public to not leave valuables, especially firearms, in your vehicles. Guns have become the number one target for thieves. Suspects will go from driveway to driveway breaking into multiple cars in a short period of time. And they are only looking for one thing: guns,” Madison and Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett stated.
“These guns are then sold on the black market, used in violent crimes, or traded for other illegal substances. We are grateful for the Gluckstadt PD for recognizing this suspect quickly and not only apprehending a career criminal, but also recovering the stolen guns and keeping them out of the wrong hands.”
Seamster had previous convictions for house burglary and grand larceny, making him a habitual offender and ineligible for parole. He will serve the 15-year sentence in the Mississippi Department of Corrections day-for-day.
