An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Neshoba County resulted in one injury.
According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, a deputy with the Winston County Sheriff’s Department attempted to pull over a vehicle on Sunday morning. The driver fled and led law enforcement into neighboring Neshoba County before stopping on County Road 577.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy is said to have shot the suspect. No information has yet been made available as to what led to the deputy discharging his weapon. As for the suspect, the unidentified individual was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
DPS added that a weapon was discovered inside the suspect’s vehicle and the incident is believed to have been captured on the deputy’s body camera. The deputy was not injured during the incident.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has now taken over the case and will turn over its findings to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
