A suspect involved in a high-speed chase through Hinds and Rankin counties has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after crashing Monday afternoon.
According to police, the pursuit began on I-55 in Byram, with the suspect allegedly traveling north to I-20 in an attempt to lose the authorities.
The suspect then exited the interstate and traveled on Highway 18 in Brandon before driving off the road. Officers report that the suspect then committed suicide by shooting themself in the head.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into the incident. Authorities with the Byram Police Department, Pearl Police Department, Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, and Mississippi Highway Patrol aided in the chase.
