A Mississippi Gulf Coast man is behind bars in connection to the August 2022 shooting death of a lawn care worker.
Gulfport police took 31-year-old Jarvis Dante Daniels into custody on Tuesday. He is accused of opening gunfire on Kelvin Simmons multiple times at a residence in the 3000 block of Audobon Drive.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that Simmons was hired to mow a lawn when he was shot multiple times by a suspect, later identified as Daniels. The suspect is reported to have fled the scene before officers arrived.
Daniels had previously been arrested for aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon for an incident that occurred in July 2022. That case has since been bound to a grand jury.
He faces additional charges of first-degree murder and shooting into a dwelling for Simmons’ death and his bond has been set at $1.5 million.
