A suspect was taken into custody after a hours-long standoff with police in Pascagoula.
According to the Pascagoula Police Department, officers responded to a home on Krebs Avenue on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. after receiving a call about people fighting. Upon arrival, officers observed a male subject, later identified as 39-year-old Darold Sim Payne, run into the home and barricade himself inside.
Two deceased victims were discovered outside of the residence as members of the Pascagoula Police Department, Ocean Springs Police Department, and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office worked to combat the situation.
After several attempts to negotiate with Payne, the Jackson County Emergency Services Unit deployed tear gas into the residence around 7:30 p.m., causing the subject to surrender. He was taken into custody without no further incident.
The identities of the two victims will be released after notification of the next of kin. No officers were harmed during the standoff.
