SuperTalk Mississippi hosted its 10th Annual Radiothon benefiting Palmer Home for Children on Thursday, July 14th. Listeners from across the state tuned in to SuperTalk Mississippi all day and heard personal testimonies directly from children, staff, and supporters of Palmer Home as they shared impactful stories of lives changing, information on the organization’s mission, their history, and their vision for Palmer Home’s future during The Gallo Radio Show, MidDays with Gerard Gibert, Good Things with Rebecca Turner, and SportsTalk Mississippi.
The day ended with $338,388 raised for Palmer Home and $4,865 additional funds were generated from the event’s online auction. Auction items included an Ole Miss football helmet signed by the 1970 football team, including Archie Manning, a guided crappie tour, and a custom hand-forged knife and case.
“During the ten years of Radiothon with SuperTalk Mississippi, hundreds of children’s lives have been changed through the vital funds raised on this day,” said Drake Bassett, President & CEO of Palmer Home for Children. “We are so grateful for SuperTalk’s partnership that allows Palmer Home to continue serving children coming out of crisis.”
In 2013, SuperTalk Mississippi declared Palmer Home for Children as the network’s charity of choice and established the annual Radiothon to support the basic operational needs of the organization. Over the past ten years, the annual event has raised over $2.4 million for the children at Palmer Home.
“Palmer Home for Children is truly a blessing to our State and a safety net for children in need,” said Kim Dillon, President and CEO of SuperTalk Mississippi Media. “For the past 10 years our partnership with Palmer Home has had an impact on the lives of Mississippi children and young adults and each dollar that our fellow Mississippians have given over the past 10 years continues to restore and strengthen those children as they find their safe-haven in Palmer Home. This 127-year-old faith-based non-profit organization accepts zero federal or state dollars and the $343,253.35 raised today will continue to make a huge difference in the lives of children and encourage them in a belief that we at SuperTalk have long held true. Hope really does grow at Palmer Home!”
