WINONA, Miss.–Winona will not be the next town to jump on the Sunday beer sales bandwagon, at least not for now. Tuesday the Board of Alderman there couldn’t get a second for a motion that would have brought it to a vote, so the matter died.
Local business owners wanted the city, which is situated on I-55 just north of the center of the state, to allow it because they believe it would help the local economy.
A recent public hearing brought out more people against it than in favor of it.
Several cities and counties in the state have recently moved to allow liquor and wine, whereas the place had previously been dry. Oxford was the most recent to vote in cold beer sales.
