If you’re one of those people who have always worked from home or maybe you were swept into remote work during the COVID pandemic and liked it so much that you never went back to the office, a new study shows Mississippi is one of the safest places to be a remote worker.
According to cybersecurity experts at Indusface, which recently conducted a study uncovering which U.S. states are the most secure for home working in 2025, Mississippi tied with Nebraska as the second-safest state for remote workers.
The study analyzed factors such as the number of scams per 10,000 residents, the cost of scams, and average internet speed.
“Mississippi stands out with a low scam rate of 20 per 10,000 residents and as one of the lowest scam costs nationwide at $25.8 million, highlighting its strong cybersecurity environment and affordability,” the study noted.
Additionally, the study pointed out that Mississippi has one of the strongest income-to-expense ratios for remote workers at 1.18 and above-average internet speeds (177.39 Mbps download, 50.98 Mbps upload). Overall, the Magnolia State scored at 8.8 out of 10.
The only state to score 9 out of 10 was North Dakota, which was ranked as the safest state for remote workers in the U.S. South Dakota, at No. 4, and Iowa, at No. 5, rounded out the top five.
