PURVIS, Miss.- Officials report that a student was found dead in a vehicle in the parking lot of Purvis High School.
Police aren’t saying much but they did tell WDAM that a student was found unresponsive around noon on Thursday.
We will update you as we learn more.
Superintendent Tess Smith issued a statement regarding the incident:
“It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. Today, one of our high school students passed away while on campus. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire District, especially or students.
We have organized a Crisis Intervention Team made up of our school counselors, school nurses, and local ministers to help with the needs of the students, parents, and school personnel at this difficult time. This team is available for students who many need or want help or any other type of assistance surrounding this loss. We encourage parents and guardians to also take advantage of these resources.
We are saddened by the loss in our school community. We will make every effort to provide you and your child counseling services as needed. If you would like additional information about counseling or need assistance, please contact MaryAnn Lambeth, Counseling Services Coordinator at 601-794-6221.”
