GREENVILLE, Miss.–While the Mississippi Delta was taking on a good soaking Friday morning, the National Weather Service did not believe that any of those storms had the potential to become severe. That was expected to change by Friday afternoon.
Meteorologist Chad Entremont told News Mississippi that the potential exists for some storms to reach strong to severe levels as the air begins to warm by late morning to mid-afternoon.
As far as the risk for tornadoes, he said it’s at least a possibility.
“We certainly can’t rule it out,” he said. “There’s enough wind shear present to allow for some storms to pop up that at least do have the risk for producing a brief tornado.”
Entremont said the main risk was for strong winds and possibly hail.
Thursday at least one Mississippi county was included in a tornado watch that affected Arkansas as storms rumbled through the delta region of that state and Louisiana.
