TUPELO, Miss. – Storm shelters will be built at Thomas Street, Carver and Joyner elementary schools.
The safe rooms will be monolithic dome structures able to hold students as well as staff during a tornado.
The cost for the three structures is about $2.05 million. 90 percent of the cost will be paid from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
The school district is also hoping to build a shelter at Tupelo High School.
