State Auditor’s Investigation Leads to Deputy Fired at Jackson County Sheriff’s Department

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. — A deputy has been fired from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department for misusing the department’s diesel fuel according to Sheriff Charles Britt.
On August 7th an employee expressed concern about another employee misusing the fuel which was stored at Singing River Island.

For the past six weeks the department conducted an internal investigation involving a local FBI office, the District Attorney’s Office, and the State Auditor’s office.

The investigation uncovered that a non-ranking deputy violated orders and direct instructions from the command staff. That employee, who remains unnamed, has been fired.
