JACKSON, Miss.–If you’ve heard reports about the FBI investigating State Auditor Stacey Pickering’s campaign, he said Thursday that it’s not true and that it’s a smear tactic by his Republican opponent, Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler.
Pickering told the Clarion-Ledger newspaper that after they cited multiple sources, saying the campaign was being looked at for the purchase of a car, a recreational vehicle and a garage door.
The paper also reported that travel reimbursements were being looked at for non-campaign years.
The paper reported that the investigation has been going on since March. Pickering said he has not spoken to the FBI.
