FULTON, Miss.–An alarm is what brought Itawamba deputies to the home of Sharon Johnson last Thursday. She was disabled and was being cared for at her home by Jimmy Carpenter. But, investigators believe Carpenter was the man who killed her.
Sheriff Chris Dickinson told media yesterday that Johnson was stabbed multiple times and that audio of the killing was captured on her home security system.
Carpenter faced a judge for the first time also Monday. The judge said no bail.
Dickinson said Carpenter was found behind Johnson’s home in the woods, talking to himself. Whatever he was saying only helped deputies put the pieces together and arrest Carpenter.
The sheriff said there was plenty of evidence from the crime scene that led them to arrest Carpenter, but they are still looking into why he would have killed a disabled person he was supposed to be helping.
