Southern Pines Receives $50,000 From ASPCA

Pet adoptions led to big awards for the Southern Pines Animal Shelter in Hattiesburg. The shelter won $50,000 from the Rachel Ray 100k challenge, says WDAM. Southern Pines also won most improved player from the ASPCA. They led the third division of the competition after nearly doubling the amount of adoptions from last year.

Southern Pines was able to increase the number of adoptions throughout June, July and August by hosting numerous fundraisers, off-site adoption events, and shipping animals to different locations around the country for interstate adoption.

Though Southern Pines didn’t win the full $100,000 from the challenge, they were eligible for the smaller prize because of their improvements and leading the third division.

The ASPCA Rachael Ray 100K Challenge website says that over that three month period, 68,805 animals were adopted across the United States.
