Just weeks after Charles Huff was announced as the new head coach of Southern Miss football, the former Marshall boss and his new staff started the recruiting season off with a bang by signing 15 transfer portal additions.
Huff teased last weekend as the “biggest recruiting weekend in Southern Miss history” the day his hire was announced. It appears the recruiting blitz met expectations and has put the Golden Eagles on their way to flipping the script from an abysmal 1-11 record in Will Hall’s final campaign.
The new leader of Golden Eagle football made his satisfaction with the storm of signees evident in a social media post on Sunday — “15 commits in 2 days? Not a bad start! The Top is closer than we think!”
15 Commits in 2 days? Not a bad start! The Top is closer than we think! Still a TON of work to be done but off to a great start! Here’s a look at the new transfers landed last Friday and Saturday that will wear the black and gold in 2025:
Ian Foster – Cornerback/Return Specialist (Marshall) | 6-0, 179 lb. | Redshirt Freshman
Foster dazzled in his first year of college football this season. The redshirt freshman tallied 18 tackles, four pass breakups, and amassed 518 return yards on 16 attempts.
Ahmad Foster – Defensive back (Marshall) | 5-9, 167 lb. | Sophomore
The Miami native brings an abundance of experience with two years of eligibility remaining. In 24 games for the Thundering Herd (2023-2024), Foster racked up 65 tackles, two tackles for loss, and an interception.
Dylan King – Safety (East Mississippi Community College) | 6-3, 195 lb. | Sophomore
The physical defender was a leader for the EMCC defense in 2024, totaling 42 tackles in 9 games played. King was initially committed to Temple, but flipped after his coach Dominique Bowman was called upon to manage the safety position in Hattiesburg.
Dominick Hill – Defensive back (Liberty) | 6-2, 215 lb. | Senior
Hill will play his final year of eligibility in Hattiesburg after three previous stops at South Carolina, Temple, and Liberty. He’s totaled 82 tackles and 8 pass deflections across his career.
Braylon Braxton – Quarterback (Marshall) | 6-1, 221 lb. | Redshirt Junior
The Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and title game MVP is as plug-and-play as it gets. Braxton threw for 1,622 yards with 19 TD and just two interceptions. He also had 601 rushing yards and four TD on the ground.
Elijah Metcalf – Wide receiver (Marshall) | 5-8, 168 lb. | Redshirt Junior
Metcalf appeared in only 4 games for the Herd after suffering an early-season injury. But he was dynamic for Middle Tennessee before transferring, leading the Blue Raiders with 54 catches for 634 yards and five touchdowns in 2023.
Chuck Montgomery – Wide receiver (Marshall) | 5-10, 180 lb. | Redshirt Senior
In three years for the Herd, Montgomery tallied 88 catches for 1,064 yards and 7 TD. Had spent his whole career at Marshall until transferring to Southern Miss ahead of the 2025 season.
Alec Clark – Punter (Marshall) | 6-1, 184 lb. | Redshirt Sophomore
Clark started all 13 games for the Herd, punting 55 times for an average of 42.4 yards with a long of 67 yards. He also dropped 17 punts inside the 20 and had 11 punts of more than 50 yards.
Ish Ibraheem – Defensive back (Marshall) | 6-1, 170 lb | Redshirt Junior
Ibraheem began his career at Texas before playing the last two years at Marshall. He suited up 7 times in 2023 and just once in 2024.
Jabari Ishmael – Defensive lineman (Marshall) | 6-5, 259 lb. | Senior
Ishmael started his career at Miami and collected 20 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and forced two fumbles in 2024.
Tychaun Chapman – Wide receiver (Marshall) | 5-9, 178 lb. | Redshirt Junior
Chapman was rated the No. 55 overall prospect in the high school class of 2022, beginning his career at UNC. He was a multi-use playmaker for Huff at Marshall in 2024, catching 17 passes for 146 yards and a TD, while rushing eight times for 46 yards and two TD.
Cooper Frazier – Offensive lineman (Samford) | 6-4, 305 lb. | Graduate Senior
Frazier is the first of what Huff and staff hope to be a significant influx of new talent on the offensive line after the unit struggled for four previous campaigns. Frazier carries real playing experience, starting all 22 possible games for the Bulldogs from 2023 to 2024 and started contests in all four of his playing years at Samford.
Christian Anderson – Offensive lineman (Alabama A&M) | 6-7, 300 lb. | Junior
Anderson shined in SWAC play for three years at Alabama A&M. He carries next level size with solid athleticism to Southern Miss and will have two years to play in Hattiesburg.
Corey Myrick – Safety (Marshall) | 6-2, 174 lb. | Sophomore
Myrick has played just seven collegiate football games in his young career, but a lengthy, athletic frame show high potential and adds depth to a growing list of talent in the 2025 Southern Miss defensive backfield.
Jeffery Pittman – Running back (Mississippi State) | 5-11, 205 lb. | Senior
Pittman arrived in Starkville in 2023 as the No. 1-ranked junior college running back prospect in America after two years at Hinds Community College. He played in 11 games for Zac Arnett and the Bulldogs in 2023 but did not appear in what turned out to be a redshirt season in 2024.
