Southern Miss opened the Baton Rouge Regional with a 15-3 blowout win over Arizona State.
The Golden Eagles trailed 1-0 heading into the top of the 5th inning, but things turned around in a hurry. Storme Cooper hit a solo HR to start what would become a 12-run inning for USM.

Fred Franklin & Danny Lynch pitched in with RBI base hits as the Golden Eagles batted around. Cooper added a 2-RBI single, and Matt Wallner capped off the inning with a 3-run HR after he also hit an RBI-single earlier in the inning.
Lynch would belt a 3-run HR in the 8th to bring USM’s run total to 15.
On the mound, freshman Gabe Shepard got the start and tossed 5.2 innings while allowing just 2 runs. With a sizable lead, the bullpen did their job and allowed ASU to score just one more run the rest of the way.
Southern Miss will take on the winner of LSU/Stony Brook tomorrow at 6 p.m.
