A new chapter of Southern Miss football will officially begin this coming fall, and the full list of upcoming Golden Eagle opponents has been announced.
The football team out of Hattiesburg took to social media with a creative rundown of its scheduled foes for the 2025 campaign, one in which new head coach Charles Huff will look to restore a once-great program to its former glory. The former Marshall frontman is inheriting a team that finished its most recent season with a 1-11 record.
But a change in leadership marks a new beginning, packed with new opportunities for Southern Miss to rise, well, to the top.

Huff’s first test won’t be easy, but it will certainly be one that will generate enthusiasm and a much-desired audience at M.M. Roberts Stadium with in-state foe Mississippi State coming to town on Saturday, Aug. 30. The last time the two teams squared off in “The Rock” was the 2016 opener in which a Dak Prescott-led Bulldog squad defeated the Golden Eagles 34-16.
One week after facing Mississippi State, Southern Miss will welcome a gritty Jackson State squad fresh off of an HBCU national title. The Golden Eagles’ home stretch will end on Sept. 13 in the team’s Sun Belt Conference opener versus Appalachian State.
Southern Miss’ first road test will be a rekindling of the “Rivalry in Dixie” against Lousiana Tech on Sept. 20. After battling the Bulldogs out of Ruston, the Golden Eagles will return home for another round of conference action on Sept. 27, with Jacksonville State on the docket.

Then, a bye week will give the black and gold a breather ahead of a Thursday, Oct. 9 conference road matchup at Georgia Southern. The Golden Eagles will continue their road stint on Oct. 18 at Louisiana before heading back to Hattiesburg for a homecoming battle against Louisiana-Monroe on Oct. 25.
Southern Miss will play a round of ping pong to round out the regular season with one game at home, another on the road, and rinse and repeat. A Nov. 8 game at Arkansas State will occur ahead of the penultimate home contest, a Nov. 15 contest versus Texas State. The road finale will happen at South Alabama on Nov. 22, ahead of the final home showcase against Troy on Nov. 29.
And if things go well, the Golden Eagles just might earn their first postseason berth in three years.
