HATTIESBURG, Miss.- For the second time this season, James McMahon takes home Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. The senior right-hander pitched 11 shutout innings against two nationally-ranked opponents last week, Mississippi State and C-USA rival Rice. The announcement was made Monday from the league office in Irving, Texas.
McMahon started 2 games last week, picking up the 5-1 win over Rice, while retiring nine batters in a row in the process. He was on a pitch count against State, so he was pulled rather early (5 pitchers used total in that game). After the Rice game, he improved to 5-0 on the season, and dropped his ERA to .99.
This is the third time this season a Southern Miss Pitcher has won the award.
