After a Saturday of no regional play thanks to rain, Southern Miss and Mississippi State came back to strut their stuff Sunday at the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional at Pete Taylor Park at Southern Miss. Now, the two Mississippi teams will face off to determine who will compete in this weekend’s Super Regional.
Mississippi State lost their first Hattiesburg Regional game to South Alabama Friday, 6-3. Southern Miss clinched the first win over UIC 8-7.
Saturday, Mississippi State was set to take on UIC and Southern Miss was set to take on South Alabama. An all-day washout pushed those games to Sunday.
Mississippi State beat UIC 5-4 Sunday afternoon. In the next game, Southern Miss beat South Alabama 8-3. This forced South Alabama into another game just moments later with Mississippi State–the Bulldogs took that victory 7-3.
Mississippi State must defeat Southern Miss twice to win the regional. The first pitch is set for 1pm. The second game is slated for 6pm.
