The University of Southern Mississippi announced Tuesday a new plan for education on the Gulf Coast. Starting in 2015, students at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College can dual enroll in both universities in one of seven programs: Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Marine Biology, Psychology, Child and Family Studies, Entertainment Industry and Paralegal Studies.
“The students will have better access to programs at Southern Miss,” says Southern Miss Chief Communications Officer Jim Coll, “we want to bring more opportunities to the Gulf Coast.” The students will have access to the programs at both locations, meaning some classes can be taken at a less expensive cost at MGCCC. Coll says that this program makes transferring to Southern Miss much easier because “the students will already be enrolled in both institutions, so the transferring is easier.”
The pilot program is set for the spring semester of 2015, with full implementation by fall 2015.
