LIMERICK, Ireland- Over 40,000 people were in attendance Sunday to watch The Pride of Mississippi crowned overall winners of the 45th Annual International Band Parade.
The parade is a staple St. Patrick’s Day event in Limerick, seeing musicians from across the globe perform in the streets of the city. A total of 24 marching bands rounding out at 1,100 musicians stemming from Ireland, Europe, and the United States were there to showcase their talent.
Of all of those, the ones coming out on top hailed from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and the Pride of Mississippi took it in style. The 160-piece band capped off the day with a rousing rendition of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, even working into their routine a dance feature when band members put down their instruments and danced along with the color guard and dance team, thrilling the judges on the review stand.
Pride Director Jamie Standland can now add another trophy to the band’s already busting-at-the-seams trophy case.
