BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–Southern Miss rallied in the second half of Saturday’s game against the University of Alabama Birmingham for a 62-27 win, breaking their nearly two-season long losing streak and spotlighting the talents of quarterback Nick Mullens.
Mullens is credited with five touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown during the game, bringing the Golden Eagles back after being eight points down at the start of the second half.
He passed for 370 yards.
The team returned home to a heroes welcome in Hattiesburg, as hundreds greeted the buses with the players and coaches..
“Everything you do is to sing the fight song in the locker room with everybody else that’s there,” Coach Todd Monken told WDAM-TV.
It was recently announced that USM will play Alabama in next season’s schedule.
