The Southern Miss men’s basketball team will have to wait to play Troy due to winter weather that covered portions of the southeastern U.S. this week.
The Golden Eagles were set to take on the Trojans in a Sun Belt matchup on Thursday night, but after Winter Storm Enzo brought 5.5 inches of snow to Troy, Ala., the game was rescheduled to Monday at 6 p.m. CT. A release from Southern Miss Athletics noted that “travel issues across the region” were still apparent two days after Tuesday’s historic snowfall.
In the meantime, the men’s team plans to travel to Louisiana on Saturday, assuming Lafayette is completely thawed out after up to 10 inches were reported on campus. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
As for the Lady Eagles, the women’s team also had to alter its schedule for the week after originally planning to travel to James Madison on Thursday night. Tipoff from Virginia has been moved to Friday at 6 p.m. CT. Their game at Marshall has also been pushed to Sunday with a tip time of noon CT.
Other teams in college basketball and the NBA were forced to make similar schedule changes due to the weather, including LSU and the New Orleans Pelicans. The once-in-a-generation storm brought snowfall to portions of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.
