Reed Green Coliseum at Southern Miss is getting a $35 million facelift.
Southern Miss Athletics Director Jeremy McClain announced on Wednesday that the coliseum that has been in use since 1965 will be undergoing numerous renovations.
Among the major work being done will be a new coliseum dome and roof, a new lobby with a ticketing area and fan shop attached, renovated concessions, a new practice facility, and an upgraded scoreboard.

The south side of the concourse will be expanded to become a club lounge for an enhanced game day experience complete with its own concessions and restrooms. The club will also connect visually to a new basketball practice facility allowing it to serve as a player and recruit lounge.
Other amenities coming to the arena include:
- New north entry
- New practice facility
- New loading dock
- Pedestrian plaza
- New sideline premium seats
- Replace bench seats with handrails added
- Premium loge-style seats
- New scoreboards and ribbon boards
- New access ramp
The project was able to be launched after Mississippi’s Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees approved a funding request by Southern Miss back in November. According to Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker, the vision for upgrades to Reed Green Coliseum was kickstarted in 2019 when residents voted to implement a 1% sales tax split between the city’s parks and recreation department and the university for the improvements.
Renovations will begin in May and are expected to be completed by early 2025. In the meantime, the USM men’s and women’s basketball teams will continue to play in the facility.
