The victims of this morning’s shooting at a Southaven Walmart have been identified.
40-year-old Anthony Brown and 38-year-old Brandon Gales are dead after a suspect, who has only been identified as a “disgruntled employee”, walked into the store and opened fire.
Desoto County Coroner Joshua Pounders confirmed that both Brown and Gales were Walmart employees.
Law enforcement quickly responded to an active shooter call around 6:30 a.m., and when they arrived, a shootout with the suspect occurred in the parking lot. During the exchange, the suspect was shot twice and taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital where he was rushed into surgery.
An officer was also shot in the exchange, and he was saved by his bulletproof vest, according to Southaven Police Chief Macon Moore.
The MBI has been called to assist with the investigation.
