JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi no longer needs permission from the Federal Government to initiate voting laws according to a new ruling by a Supreme Court, and that is not settling well with some Mississippi Democrats.
“We have so many issues and challenges we still face dealing with voters getting the basic respect that deserve,” Representative Chuck Espy.
He also was quick to say that he believes Mississippi and other southern states are still far behind in African Americans representation.
“The only thing that I can hope for at this point, is we should still all come to the table together and make sure that any of those changes should not ever, ever effect some of our senior citizens and the African American community.”
Espy hopes new laws are drafted for southern states.
