Help is on the way for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients who experienced major power outages due to the recent wave of inclement weather.
Households that lost power for six or more hours amid Tuesday’s severe storms are eligible to request a replacement of SNAP benefits. This also applies to those whose food purchased with SNAP benefits was destroyed due to a disaster, such as a flood, fire, or severe weather.
Replacement benefits may be provided in the amount of the loss to the household, but no more than the maximum amount of SNAP benefits issued for the month. To request a replacement of SNAP benefits, households must report the disaster to their local Mississippi Department of Human Services office by Friday, April 19.
The replacement request form may be accessed online and can be submitted by mail, email, or by uploading forms to the MDHS website.
