BILOXI, Miss.- The 2016 shrimping season is officially open and shrimp boats have hit the Mississippi waters.
Nets were dropped as early as 6 a.m. on Monday morning and about 300 boats were on the Mississippi Sound for opening day.
The Department of Marine Resources said they sold more than 600 licenses.
While waters weren’t very smooth it didn’t stop shrimpers from dragging. DMR officers were out and about checking boats to make sure that turtle exclude devices were on each and every net.
