Local, state, and federal officials are investigating after shots were fired outside the home of U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.
The shooting, confirmed by both the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Hyde-Smith’s office on Monday morning, took place Sunday around 12:30 p.m.
Sources tell SuperTalk Mississippi News that gunfire rang out as family members of the Republican senator were arriving at the Brookhaven residence after church. No one was injured in the incident.
“An incident involving a shooting occurred near the home of Senator Hyde-Smith early Sunday afternoon. The senator and her family were not harmed. Senator Hyde-Smith is grateful for the concern shown by many and the good work of federal, state, and local law enforcement,” a statement from Hyde-Smith’s office reads.
At this time, it is unclear if Hyde-Smith was home at the time of the shooting. Casings from a firearm were said to have been found outside the residence.
