MEMPHIS, Tenn.–It was a threatening situation early Saturday on Beale St. in Memphis when a Pontotoc County, Miss. sheriff’s deputy shot a man several times. The off-duty deputy told Memphis cops he was trying to stop a man who fondled a woman when several of the man’s baddies joined him against the deputy.
It happened about 2 a.m., reported WMC-TV. The deputy, who was only ID’d as a 25-year-old Pontotoc deputy, pulled his gun and shot the man after he was outnumbered. The man was taken to a Memphis hospital in critical condition.
The deputy was taken into custody, but the Tennessee attorney general’s office declined to prosecute.
The TV station reported that the investigation is on-going and charges could come later.
