GREENVILLE, MISS– A Greenville man is dead after a shootout with police over the weekend.
When officers arrived at the home of Ronnie Lee Shorter on Saturday, the man came out with a handgun and started shooting at the five officers on the scene.
Shorter died after being shot five times.
Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Warren Strain confirmed the incident to News Mississippi.
“The body was taken to the crime laboratory, to the medical examiner’s office, and scheduled for an autopsy,” said Strain. “We’ve conducted also interviews and the investigation is ongoing and is progressing as it should. That’s all we have to report at this time.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting the interviews during this process.
The five officers on the scene have been placed on leave pending the investigation. News Mississippi has reached out to the Greenville Police Department and is awaiting a response.
