LEXINGTON, Miss.–Even if a shooting that involved a police officer hadn’t happened in a church parking lot during the Sunday service, it would still have been a case of church politics gone amok. Asia Baptist Church was the scene and a relative of that church’s pastor is dead. A Lexington cop is on administrative leave after pulling the trigger.
The dead man was ID’d as 26-year-old Cacedrick White. Members of the congregation were in the process of firing the pastor and he would not leave, according to witnesses. That’s when the cops were called to make him go. While the Lexington Police Dept. was already on scene, White showed up with a shotgun, Capt. Sam Chambers, with the Holmes Co. Sheriff’s Dept. told WAPT.
“When he got out of the vehicle, he got out of the vehicle with a gun. Officers were standing in the door, and they commanded him to stop with the gun and put it down. He refused and was still walking toward them when the officers fired,” he said.
Relatives of White told the TV station they never heard anyone tell White to stop. He was shot in the parking lot and died later at a local hospital.
An investigation by the MBI is on-going.
