JACKSON, MISS– Same-sex couples can now adopt in the Magnolia state after the state failed to meet the appeal deadline.
The ban on same-sex adoption has been lifted after 16 years.
A U.S. District Judge ruled that the Department of Human Services must stop enforcing a ban on same-sex adoption back in March.
The ban was ruled unconstitutional since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage was legal.
Lawyers representing the State of Mississippi had until midnight Tuesday to appeal the judge’s decision.
